Amazon is the most favoured e-commerce platform in India, followed by Flipkart and Myntra, according to a survey by RedSeer Consulting. The survey also found that consumers in tier II cities are more online savvy than those in tier I cities.
The survey, which was conducted in January 2023, polled over 10,000 consumers across 12 cities in India. It found that Amazon was the most preferred e-commerce platform for 42% of respondents, followed by Flipkart (23%) and Myntra (14%). Other popular e-commerce platforms included Snapdeal (10%), Shopclues (8%), and Jabong (6%).
The survey also found that consumers in tier II cities are more likely to use e-commerce platforms than those in tier I cities. In tier II cities, 62% of respondents said they had used an e-commerce platform in the past six months, compared to 54% of respondents in tier I cities.
The survey attributed the higher adoption of e-commerce in tier II cities to a number of factors, including the increasing availability of internet connectivity, the rising disposable incomes of consumers, and the growing awareness of online shopping options.
The survey also found that consumers in tier II cities are more likely to shop for electronics, fashion, and home and kitchen products online than those in tier I cities. In tier II cities, 35% of respondents said they had shopped for electronics online in the past six months, compared to 28% of respondents in tier I cities. Similarly, 32% of respondents in tier II cities said they had shopped for fashion online, compared to 25% of respondents in tier I cities. And, 28% of respondents in tier II cities said they had shopped for home and kitchen products online, compared to 23% of respondents in tier I cities.
The survey's findings suggest that Amazon is well-positioned to continue its dominance of the Indian e-commerce market. The company has a strong brand presence in India, a wide range of products and services, and a robust logistics network. Additionally, the company's focus on tier II cities is paying off, as these cities are becoming increasingly important for e-commerce growth in India.
